An expressive image goes beyond the recording of an event, place or person. It tells a story, shares a feeling or reaction, and is the ultimate blend of vision, passion and craft.

In this inspiring and interactive session, we'll explore those elements essential to the creation of an expressive image, from image structure to exposure to finding and extracting nuance. I'll share straight prints and finished prints of the same image to illustrate translating the reality in front of the lens to something more personal and that represents the vision in my mind's eye.

While black-and-white silver gelatin prints are my first love, the concepts and techniques behind creating an expressive image apply to all formats and photographic expressions.

Participants should come ready to explore, learn and have fun. Note taking and audio/video recordings for personal use are both accepted and encouraged.
